Recap[]

SPOILERS AHEAD
Like it or not, most of us have been there — you know, on the wrong side of St. Valentine, totally misreading each and every single signal. (Just writing that brought back all kinds of memories. Ouch.) Unfortunately, Jane found herself in that very same position when it came to crush-worthy Professor Chavez, encountering one misstep after another in what eventually became a very over-the-top rollercoaster ride of an episode.

I mean, can you imagine if you 1) accidentally blurted out your crush’s name in front of him during a public reading of your new writing and 2) kissed your advisor’s sweater as he awkwardly dodged your move? Yup, that happened to Jane — as well as a few other totally cringe-worthy moments. You see, newly single Jane is ready to make a move — especially since Xo, over a baby-proofing session at Rogelio’s apartment, tells Jane that it’s up to her to read Professor Chavez’s signals. Whether it’s love or lust, Jane gets it all kinds of wrong, which prompts her to tell Chavez that she’ll have to give him up as an advisor. #Boundaries

While Jane is suffering embarrassment and general shame over totally misreading Chavez’s “signals” — i.e. physical contact and familiarity — there’s another pair on the show going through some ups and downs of their own. If you guessed Petra and Rafael, well, you’d be right.

Although faithful viewers know how volatile their relationship has been in the past, when it comes to the Marbella, these two are totally in sync. Their goal? To make that money, honey. That — coupled with the fact that Petra’s pregnancy has brought out a soft side of Raf — means that these two are all about the smiles, jokes, and foot massages. (Carrying twins is serious business, y’all.) But there’s a wrinkle: A high-profile artist is thinking of cancelling her Marbella wedding, a prospect that throws Petra into action. The situation is made a wee bit harder when Petra discovers she fired said artist when she worked at the hotel a few years ago, which means our girl has to eat a slice or two of humble pie. But her determination to earn the prize — in this case, some major business for the hotel — reminds Rafael why he originally fell in love with her. It wasn’t, as Petra originally thought, just a matter of her being a trophy wife. (Though that’s what it originally seemed, when he seduced her on the night of her engagement to Lachlan.

It was Petra’s tenacity — as seen in a flashback where she describes securing the best price of fish for her wedding to Rafael — that won the hotelier over. Everyone say it with me: Awwww.

It’s worth noting that the years have made Petra all the more determined to reach her goals, and in this case, she decides to offer the artist a free wedding at the Marbella. (Hey, it’s cheaper than bad press!) All that and her generally hot self — sometimes pregnancy really does a body good — proves irresistible to Rafael, who sitting next to her on a couch in her hotel suite, leans in for a big smooch.

Can you believe it?! Did you see it coming? Petra certainly didn’t, and though she clearly still loves Rafael, she asks an all-important question: “Are you over Jane?” Unfortunately, the scene ends without Rafael coughing up an answer… But do you think these two are meant to be?

Also suffering some relationship hiccups this episode? Xo and Rogelio. You’ll remember that these two met when they were just 16 years old, and with Xo’s 40th birthday approaching, life seems to have brought them full circle. They’re in love and happy — or are they? While Xo is certainly head over heels for her leading man, she’s largely unfulfilled when it comes to her professional life. Sure, she likes teaching kids, but, as she tells Rogelio, “I never thought I’d be 40 and teaching ‘whip the nae nae’ to a bunch of 7-year-olds.” Still, there’s no time like the present, and Xo marches down to a local bar to ask about singing a few times a week. The manager, Diego, flat-out tells her no, offering up her seeming lack of commitment as a reason. But where there’s a will, there’s a way — and when she’s given a chance to perform on the night of her birthday party, she takes it. On stage — looking and sounding beautiful — Xo shines, proving that age shouldn’t make a difference when it comes to pursuing your passion.

That’s something that Rogelio should know all too well — after all, he became a telenovela star later in life — but when it comes to some things, he’s totally oblivious. Like say, showing a diamond to a baby who’s all too prone to eat anything and everything. (Yup, that really happened: Mateo swallowed a diamond that Rogelio was going to have set as an engagement ring for Xo.) Still, he loves Xo and even wants more children with her, which he says when he drops down on one knee backstage after Xo’s performance. The proposal was beautiful: heartfelt, touching and sincere, as was Xo’s response.

“I want to… But there is one thing. That I didn’t know but I’m realizing,” she tells him. “I don’t want to have anymore kids. Because I want the next 20 years to be about me.”

Well, said Xo! While Rogelio has to mull her response over, Michael and Suzanne are doing their best to make some developments in the ongoing Sin Rostro case. The big reveal tonight was that Rose has been masquerading as Elena’s (Rafael’s mom) stepdaughter, which basically means that the entire family is FUBAR. This realization hits Luisa like a ton of bricks, especially when she tries to contact Rose. But Rose never ever responds. Instead, she shows up in Elena’s lair three time zones away. You see, if the police have the chip that was buried in Michael’s leg, they definitely have a problem. But you should know these broads by now: Nothing — and I mean nothing — ever stands in their way for too long.

Oh, and the matter of Jane and Professor Chavez? Well, she can call him Jonathan now since after hearing of her decision to change advisors, he asked her out. Forget about Jane’s fantasy — mine is definitely coming true with the reveal that they’re heading out to dinner!
