Grobglas was born in Paris, France, to parents of French and Austrian descent. When she was 3 years old, her family made aliyah to Israel, where her talent and passion for performing arts became visible at an early age. She grew up in Ra'anana. As a teenager, Yael studied different styles of dance and performed in a professional dance group. She had a brief modeling career and participated in a number of runway shows and advertising campaigns. Having realized a greater interest in acting, Yael began taking acting classes.
Yael started her acting career with a lead part in three seasons of the Israeli sci-fi TV series Ha'Yi (the Island 2007–09), which established her popularity among Israel's teenage audiences. Following two consecutive seasons of the show Yael enrolled in a full-time three-year acting program the Yoram Loewenstein Performing Arts Studio. She completed an additional season of Ha'Yi, and was cast for a number of major commercials during the course of her studies. She gained recognition for her debut film role in first Israeli horror film Rabies (Hebrew: כלבת, translit. Kalevet 2010), which participated in the Tribeca Film Festival, and a number of other venues internationally.
Grobglas has had a number of lead and supporting roles in prime time Israeli TV shows, including sitcom Ha-Shualim (the Foxes, 2010), Ramzor (2011) and Hatzuya (2011). She is also known for her role as "The Girl" in the interactive video of We the Kings "Say You Like Me". and as "Gabi" in the popular Israeli series "Tanuhi" (2012).
In the United States, it was announced on 22 February 2013 that she was cast as the lead role of "America Singer" in The CW's pilot "The Selection", described as a cross between The Bachelor and The Hunger Games, which was ultimately not picked up to series. The same year, she was cast for The CW's's Reign as Olivia, an Italian noblewoman who is an old flame of Prince Francis (Toby Regbo). In 2014, Yael was cast for the role of Petra in the CW's upcoming television show "Jane the Virgin".
